International Day of Non-Violence observed on 2 October, Gandhi Jayanti
The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on 2 October, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The UN General Assembly established the day through a resolution in 2007. It promotes peaceful action, dialogue, tolerance and conflict resolution, drawing on Gandhi's philosophy of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Satyagraha (non-violent resistance). Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 at Porbandar, Gujarat.
