2026 Ig Nobel Prizes awarded; Indian researchers among Chemistry Prize winners

The 2026 Ig Nobel Prizes for unusual scientific research were presented in Zurich, Switzerland. Started in 1991 by Marc Abrahams as a humorous counterpart to the Nobel Prizes, the awards this year gave the Chemistry Prize to Sanchari Banerjee, Nathan Coussens and colleagues, including researchers from India, for studying the high-energy milk proteins of viviparous cockroaches. Tokuji Unno received the Medicine Prize posthumously for work on the aerodynamics of nose-blowing, and João Miguel Alves-Nunes and colleagues won the Biology Prize for studying why venomous snakes bite humans.
