The Union Cabinet cleared the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme, aimed at building a globally competitive sports goods industry. Announced in the Union Budget 2026–27, it has ₹1,856.67 crore earmarked over the period 2026–2033–34. It seeks to raise domestic manufacturing, innovation, exports and jobs, and cut import dependence. Of the outlay, ₹1,130 crore backs investment and production and ₹105 crore backs international quality certification. Sports Goods Manufacturing Zones (SGMZs) will bring together manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities and design centres, and MSMEs will also get support. The scheme supports research, skilling and global market access, in line with Khelo Bharat Niti 2025, Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
