Tamil Nadu's first Mangrove Conservation Centre is being set up at Muzhukuthurai near Killai in Cuddalore district under the Tamil Nadu Shoreline Restoration Initiative (TN-SHORE), at an estimated cost of ₹26.50 crore.
Located near the Pichavaram mangrove forest, one of India's largest, the centre will support mangrove conservation, restoration, research, biodiversity protection and awareness. It will also promote sustainable eco-tourism with local communities and help meet the State's Ramsar Convention commitments.
