The Tamil Nadu government has launched 'Vettri Karangal' to give construction workers international-standard skills for jobs abroad. 1,000 registered workers will be trained at a cost of ₹15 crore, and another 50,000 will get seven-day training in masonry, carpentry, electrical work, plumbing and painting with ₹800 a day as wage-loss compensation. Accident insurance for registered gig workers will be doubled to ₹10 lakh, and the State will bear loan interest for 1,000 gig workers buying e-bikes. 50 facilitation centres and temporary shelters for migrant construction workers will come up in Chennai and Coimbatore.
