Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have proposed listing the Striped Hyena in Appendix I and Appendix II of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS). The proposal will be taken up at the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) of CMS, to be held in Campo Grande, Brazil, from 23 to 29 March 2026. Appendix I covers endangered migratory species needing strict protection, while Appendix II covers species whose conservation requires international cooperation. The Striped Hyena is classed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.
