The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has reported that India was the second-largest arms importer in the world during 2021-2025, accounting for about 8.2% of total global arms imports. Ukraine ranked first, followed by India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan. The report notes that India has gradually reduced its reliance on Russia while buying more weapons from France, Israel and the United States. Russia's share of India's arms imports fell from about 70% in 2011-2015 to around 40% in 2021-2025.
