Prevention of Blindness Week is observed every year in the first week of April (April 1 to 7) to raise awareness about eye health and prevent loss of vision.
It aims to reduce avoidable blindness through awareness, early detection and timely treatment. The theme for 2026 is 'Uniting for a Glaucoma-Free World'. Glaucoma is a major cause of permanent blindness and is often called the 'silent thief of sight' because it can damage vision gradually without warning signs.
