National Solidarity Day observed on October 20 to honour Armed Forces and recall 1962 war

National Solidarity Day, marked on 20 October, pays tribute to the Armed Forces and recalls the 1962 India–China War. On that date in 1962, China attacked India in NEFA (North-East Frontier Agency), present-day Arunachal Pradesh, and in Ladakh, starting the conflict. Fighting took place mainly in the eastern sector (NEFA) and the western sector (Ladakh, including Aksai Chin), and China declared a unilateral ceasefire on 21 November 1962. In 1966, a national committee formed during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's tenure designated the day, which honours fallen soldiers and promotes national unity and patriotism.
