India successfully launched Mission SANA, its first indigenous stratospheric super-pressure balloon mission, from Vijayawada. The mission was carried out by Red Balloon Aerospace. Super-pressure balloons can float at a steady altitude in the stratosphere for long durations, making them useful for atmospheric research, earth observation and communication experiments. With this launch, India joined a group of only five countries that possess indigenous stratospheric super-pressure balloon technology.
