The ICAR–National Soybean Research Institute (NSRI), Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has presented two improved soybean (Glycine max) varieties, NRC 268 and NRC 270, which gave early yields of about 20 quintals per hectare. Both are bred to cope with erratic rainfall, dry spells, pests and diseases, with the aim of raising output, cutting weather-linked losses and lifting farm incomes. NRC 270 stands out for bigger seeds, greater seed weight and better market value. They are recommended for major soybean States like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, mainly for Kharif sowing.
