The International Day of the Snow Leopard, marked on 23 October, seeks to build awareness about protecting the snow leopard and its mountain habitats. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared the day through a resolution adopted on 12 December 2024. The snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is a high-altitude wild cat found in 12 countries across Central and South Asia, India among them. It is listed as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List. India launched Project Snow Leopard in 2009.
