About 30 Tamil Brahmi Inscriptions Found in Egypt's Valley of the Kings

Save

Nearly 30 Tamil Brahmi inscriptions dated to the 1st-3rd centuries CE have been identified in six tombs of the Theban Necropolis in Egypt's Valley of the Kings during studies in 2024 and 2025. Alongside Prakrit and Sanskrit writings, they point to Indian visitors. The name Cikai Korran appears eight times across five tombs. The finds add evidence of ancient trade between Tamilagam and the Roman Empire; similar Tamil names were earlier found at Berenike, a Red Sea port.
