The report of the Justice B. Gokuldas Commission, which probed the 2024 Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy, was placed before the Tamil Nadu Assembly on September 8, 2026. It blamed lapses by the Police, the Prohibition and Excise Department and Revenue officials for letting methanol-laced arrack circulate. It recommended departmental action, a dedicated Prohibition Enforcement Wing for the Kalvarayan Hills, education, food, shelter and later government jobs for orphaned children, new industries in Kallakurichi for employment, and an upgrade of the Kariyalur police station.
