The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) has described two new species of lichen moths, Caulocera hollowayi and Asura buxa, from the eastern Himalayas. They were recorded in the Sikkim and West Bengal regions. Lichen moths belong to the order Lepidoptera, which includes butterflies and moths. Because they depend on lichens that are sensitive to pollution, these moths serve as useful indicators of air quality. The eastern Himalayas are a major biodiversity hotspot.
