Save

The WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Global Conservation Conference opened in Jaipur, Rajasthan. WWF, an international NGO founded in 1961, works on wildlife conservation, habitat protection, climate action and sustainable resource use. Over the last decade India's protected areas grew from about 750 to over 1,000, tiger reserves from 47 to 58, elephant reserves from 30 to 33, and Ramsar sites — wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, 1971 — from 24 to 101. India's cheetah reintroduction aims to restore the species after its local extinction in the 20th century.
