India is setting up what is described as the world's first Autonomous Maritime Shipbuilding and Systems Centre in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. The facility will develop unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The centre is intended to strengthen maritime security and boost indigenous defence manufacturing in the field of autonomous naval platforms.
