World Wide Web Day is marked every year on 1 August to celebrate the invention of the World Wide Web (WWW) and its influence on communication across the world.
The WWW was invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and was made available to the public in 1991. The day recognises how the web transformed access to information.
