World Senior Citizens Day is marked every year on August 21 to honour the contributions of older people and to raise awareness about their dignity, welfare and rights. The International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief falls on 22 August each year. It remembers those targeted for their religion or belief, upholds their human rights and encourages tolerance, interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
