World Rabies Day is marked on 28 September to spread awareness on preventing and eliminating rabies. The 2026 theme is “Stronger Together”. Rabies is a deadly zoonotic disease that claims nearly 59,000 lives every year, and it is almost 100% fatal once symptoms appear. The day has been observed worldwide since 2007 with the support of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC).
