World Milk Day is observed every year on 1 June. It was established in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to highlight the role of milk and dairy products in nutrition and food security. The theme for 2026 is "Celebrating Women Farmers", recognising the large contribution women make to dairy farming. India is the world's largest milk producer, and the sector supports millions of rural livelihoods.
