World Lung Day, observed on 25 September, raises awareness about lung health and respiratory diseases. The theme for 2026 is "A Lifetime of Lung Health". Major lung conditions include asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), lung cancer, tuberculosis (TB) and respiratory infections, linked to risks such as smoking, air pollution, second-hand smoke and harmful environmental exposure. The idea of World Lung Day was conceived by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) at its 2016 Kyoto Assembly.
