World Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is marked on 8 October to spread awareness of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. For the 2026 observance, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) held an event in New Delhi on hydrogen standards and safety, looking at how hydrogen can be produced, stored, transported and used safely in India. At the event, the report "India's Hydrogen Standards: Gap Assessment and Preliminary Action Framework" was released. The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), cleared in January 2023 with ₹19,744 crore, aims for 5 million metric tonnes of yearly green hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
