World Coconut Day is marked on September 2 to highlight the farm, economic and everyday value of the coconut. It was first observed in 2009; the date is the founding day of the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), now the International Coconut Community (ICC). The coconut is called the 'Tree of Life' because its fruit, water, flesh, oil, husk, shell, leaves and wood all have uses. India, Indonesia and the Philippines are among the major producers.
