In New Delhi, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology unveiled a World Bank Group publication titled World Development Report 2026: The Promise of Artificial Intelligence. The report studies what AI offers low- and middle-income countries and the hurdles they face. Rather than spending heavily to build models from scratch, it advises adopting existing AI models and tailoring them to local languages and development priorities. It finds that slightly over 4% of Indian jobs are at immediate risk of automation, against more than one-third in advanced economies. India had about 50,460 AI professionals in 2025 but lost 200 top AI researchers and inventors between 2011 and 2024.
