India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the country's first Mega Greenfield Shipyard at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. The project forms part of the maritime cooperation framework between India and the Republic of Korea, known as VOYAGES (Shared Vision for Operation of Yard Assisted Growth with Efficiency and Scale). A greenfield shipyard is built from scratch on a new site, and the project is expected to boost shipbuilding capacity on the Tamil Nadu coast.
