The Union Cabinet cleared the proposal to rename Kerala as 'Keralam', following a unanimous resolution of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The President will send the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, to the State Legislature for its views under Article 3. The Centre will then seek the President's recommendation to introduce the Bill in Parliament. Article 3 allows Parliament to change the name of any State by law.
