The UN General Assembly adopted the "Correct the Map" resolution encouraging world maps that show Africa's true size. It was backed by 164 countries, with the United States voting against and six abstaining. It promotes the Equal Earth projection over the 1569 Mercator projection, which enlarges polar regions and shrinks Africa; Africa is actually about 14 times larger than Greenland. The resolution is non-binding but is expected to push international institutions toward more accurate maps.
