From October 28, 2026, Tamil Nadu has allowed persons with disabilities, along with their companions, to travel free on buses by showing the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card. People with more than 40% disability and one companion qualify for the benefit in eligible non-air-conditioned government buses. Covered services are city ordinary, express, low-floor and deluxe buses, plus ordinary-fare buses in mofussil (suburban) and hilly areas. The government order was issued by the Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons. Present concessions, such as the 75% travel concession, will remain, and bus operators will hand free travel tickets to eligible passengers.
