Twenty Blackbucks Rewilded in Banni Grasslands of Kutch After Translocation from Vantara

Save
Twenty blackbucks, 15 females and 5 males, were released into the Banni Grasslands of Kutch, Gujarat, after being shifted from Vantara in Jamnagar. The blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) is a South Asian grassland antelope listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Banni is a major arid and semi-arid ecosystem that supports blackbuck, chinkara and nilgai. Gujarat's broader programme plans to translocate 500 blackbucks and 100 chinkaras to rebuild native herbivore populations.
