Political Shift in Tamil Nadu: TVK Moves to Form Government


On May 7, 2026, C. Joseph Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), officially met the Governor to stake a claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats. Following this, the Congress party ended its long-term alliance with the DMK to extend support to TVK, helping them reach the majority mark. Meanwhile, the DMK elected Udhayanidhi Stalin as the leader of its Legislature Party, designating him as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP).
