The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution seeking exemption from the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) for teachers appointed before August 23, 2010, the date from which the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) made TET compulsory. It seeks an amendment to Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. Around 3,28,701 teachers with 15-20 years of service could be affected in promotion and continuation, as the Supreme Court has directed them to clear TET by August 31, 2028. The resolution urges the Union Government to act legally and issue a notification through NCTE.
