The Tamil Nadu Assembly passed 11 Bills on September 8, 2026. The Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2026 lowers the minimum land requirement from 100 acres to 12 acres in Greater Chennai Corporation, 18 acres in other corporations and municipalities, and 25 acres elsewhere, and halves the endowment fund from ₹50 crore to ₹25 crore. The Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Bill gives urban development authorities a full-time chairman instead of the District Collector.
