On 20 October 2026, three Indian sites were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List: Baratang's Karst-Mud-Volcano Complex, the Andaman Subduction Volcanoes and the Sirpur Cultural and Archaeological Landscape. The Baratang Complex in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands features limestone caves and active mud volcanoes, including the Jalki cave area. The Andaman Subduction Volcanoes comprise Barren Island and Narcondam Island, both protected areas in the Andaman Sea. Sirpur, in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district, is an ancient landscape along the Mahanadi River with monuments from the 5th to 12th century CE. Inclusion in the Tentative List precedes nomination for the World Heritage List; India now has 45 World Heritage Sites.
