Tata Steel commissions India's first Coke Oven Gas injection project in Odisha

Save
Tata Steel has commissioned India's first Coke Oven Gas (COG) injection project at its Meramandali plant in Odisha. COG is a by-product of coke making that is rich in hydrogen and hydrocarbons. After cleaning, the gas is fed into the blast furnace through tuyeres, partly replacing conventional fossil fuels. Its hydrogen content cuts the use of coke and coal and lowers carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. The project aims to improve resource efficiency and operational flexibility and to support low-carbon ironmaking.
