Under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, the State government released the Tamil Nadu Urban Greening Policy 2026 to build climate-resilient, sustainable and liveable cities by expanding urban green cover. It calls for weaving trees, urban forests, parks, wetlands and blue-green infrastructure into city planning. Urban Local Bodies are expected to keep at least 15% of their area under green cover. The wider Green Tamil Nadu Mission targets raising the State's forest and tree cover to 33%.
