Transforming Urban Tamil Nadu: The 5-E Implementation
In May 2026, the Tamil Nadu government intensified its focus on the '5-E' Vision—Ease of Living, Education, Employment, Economy, and Entertainment—to modernize urban infrastructure. This aligns with the recently released Urban Greening Policy 2026, targeting a 15% green cover in all cities.
PM SHRI Scheme Status:
- Conditional Willingness: Tamil Nadu has expressed conditional willingness to sign the MoU for the PM SHRI (PM ScHools for Rising India) scheme.
- Funding Debate: Disagreements persist over the 60:40 funding pattern and the implementation of specific NEP 2020 provisions.
- Objective: Once implemented, PM SHRI will transform selected government schools into 'Exemplar Schools' with modern digital labs and green infrastructure.
