Tamil Nadu Prisons (Release on Furlough) Rules, 2026 Notified

Save

Tamil Nadu notified new rules for granting furlough to convicts. Those convicted of sedition or acts against India's sovereignty, rape, POCSO offences, specified NDPS Act offences, foreign convicts, and those involved in prison offences in the last five years are ineligible. A prisoner qualifies only after 10 years of imprisonment with good conduct, and furlough cannot be claimed as a right. The Director General of Prisons may allow up to 60 days a year, and the government may sanction 60 more days for rehabilitation. Furlough counts towards the sentence, and overstaying can lead to arrest without warrant.
