Tamil Nadu Northeast Monsoon 2025 Ends Slightly Below Normal; Samba Paddy Target Nearly Met

Save

Tamil Nadu's 2025 northeast monsoon (October-December) brought about 43 cm of rain against a normal of roughly 44 cm. That is slightly below normal and ends a six-year run of normal or surplus rainfall since 2019. Chennai's five-year surplus streak also ended. Good summer rain and Cauvery water still kept the Samba-Thaladi-Pishanam season on track, with 33.8 lakh acres under paddy against a 33.9 lakh acre target. About 14.8 lakh tonnes of paddy had been procured so far. The weak Madden-Julian Oscillation was blamed for the long dry spell.
