The Tamil Nadu government has rolled out the 'Annan Seer' scheme to support eligible brides from low-income families. Each beneficiary receives a gold coin weighing 8 grams of 22-carat purity, along with a silk sari. Only families whose yearly income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh are eligible. For this financial year, ₹812 crore has been released as the opening instalment. The scheme has been in force since 5 October 2026. Gold will be bought through an open tender governed by the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act, 1998, at the rate that the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) publishes on the purchase date.
