The Tamil Nadu Government has instituted the Inaiya Tamil Chemmal Award to honour Tamil scholars and activists who promote and develop the language through websites, digital platforms and online research. It recognises work in digital Tamil services and Unicode promotion, extending recognition of Tamil language efforts into the digital era. Winners receive the Inaiya Tamil Chemmal title and a cash prize of ₹25,000.
