The State Planning Commission's Economic Survey 2025–26, using NFHS-5 data, shows Tamil Nadu has the highest consanguineous marriage rate among peer States at 28% (India 10.8%). Child marriage stands at 12.8% against 23.3% nationally, and the median age at first marriage for women aged 25–29 is 22 years (India 19.7). Female literacy is 84% and 24.3% of women have 12+ years of schooling, second only to Kerala. About 92% of women have bank accounts and 47% use the internet. The State also has the highest share of pregnancies ending in non-live births, 9.9%.
