A statue honouring Omandur Ramasamy Reddiyar will be erected on the Government Medical College campus inside Chennai's Omandurar Government Estate, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced. Reddiyar, a follower of Vallalar, headed the Madras Presidency as Premier between 23 March 1947 and 6 April 1949. During that period his administration enacted the Madras Temple Entry Authorization Act, the Devadasi Dedication Abolition Act of 1947 and the Zamindari Abolition Act. It also reserved 14.29% of public service posts for Backward Classes, which was the first such quota anywhere in India, and in 1948 acquired the Madras government's first aircraft.
