Southern Railway, headquartered in Chennai, has recorded its best-ever performance in managing Traction Distribution (TRD) assets during 2025-26. TRD assets include the overhead equipment and power supply systems that feed electric trains. Failures of these assets fell to just three in 2025-26, compared with 13 in 2024-25, an improvement of about 77%. Fewer failures mean fewer disruptions to electric train services and better punctuality across the zone, which covers Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry among other areas.
