A 51-year-old astrologer has been handed a combined sentence of 200 years of rigorous imprisonment by a POCSO court in Sivagangai for sexually assaulting two minor girls in 2021. He had been arrested in 2022. The court awarded 100 years of imprisonment for the offence against each victim and imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh. It also ordered the government to pay compensation of ₹10 lakh to each of the two survivors. This is believed to be the first instance of a court awarding a cumulative rigorous sentence of 200 years.
