Thirteen Class XI students of Ariyakudi Government Higher Secondary School in Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu, successfully launched a 600-gram mini satellite named Vikko Sat-1. The satellite was designed to detect fungal spores in the stratosphere and carries five specialised sensors for the purpose. The achievement shows how hands-on space science projects are reaching government schools in the State.
