Scientists Decode 130-Million-Year Tectonic Evolution of the Ladakh Magmatic Arc

Save

Scientists have traced the evolution of the Ladakh Magmatic Arc, uncovering a geological history of nearly 130 million years. The arc formed through continuous subduction of the Neo-Tethys Oceanic Plate beneath the Eurasian Plate and developed between the Jurassic and Eocene periods (roughly 201 to 34 million years ago). Its main components, the Dras-Nidar Island Arc Complex and the Ladakh Batholith, preserve valuable rock records. The study identifies three major magmatic phases, ending in collision with the Indian Plate.
