Save

Launched on 4 August 2026 by Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund, the Phoenix Species Project commits $200 million to recovering 100 threatened species in 30 countries, from mammals, birds and fish to amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates and plants. The two bodies put in $100 million each; actor Leonardo DiCaprio co-founded Re:wild. Over 100 partners, among them Indigenous Peoples, local communities, scientists and governments, take part; the IUCN Species Survival Commission is global knowledge partner. Each species gets five years of support, tracked by population recovery and threat reduction. Examples: Critically Endangered golden-crowned sifaka, night parrot, Malayan pangolin, Visayan warty pig, bowmouth guitarfish; Charco Azul pupfish (Extinct in the Wild).
