Tamil Nadu introduced a 'Baby Care Kit' scheme to lower infant deaths among low birth weight babies (under 2.5 kg). Monthly kits contain iron, multivitamin and Vitamin D3 drops, an infant medical card and a booklet on 12 child development signs. Of about 4.5 lakh annual deliveries in government hospitals, around 52,000 babies are underweight. Announced in the State Budget, it costs ₹8.07 crore. The State's IMR fell from 8.2 (2023–24) to 7.7 (2024–25) per 1,000 live births. The PICME app 'Thaimai' was launched to track antenatal care, immunisation and high-risk alerts.
