Periyar Kullan registered as Kerala's second indigenous cattle breed

Save
The ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) has formally registered the Periyar cow, also called Periyar Kullan, as an indigenous cattle breed. It is the second breed from Kerala to gain national recognition, after the Vechur cow, one of India's smallest cattle breeds. Periyar Kullan is a small-to-medium dwarf breed native to the Western Ghats forest fringes and plantation areas of central Kerala. It is found mainly in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, where it is locally known as Kuttampuzha cattle and Andukanni.
